personal design project, April 2025
This project represents a very personal experience of mine as an architect. This was my grandparents’ house in my home country, Iran, when I was a child. My childhood memories in this house are engraved in my mind, and I decided to recreate it based on my memory because this house was destroyed a few years ago, and an apartment building was built by the owner who bought its property. The main concept is purely intellectual rather than physical, it’s all about how an architecturally unprofessional place made me feel as a child. I believe that as a child, I did see the world through a pure and beautiful lens.

BACKYARD (HAYAT KHALVAT):
(Hayāt-e Khalvat), literally meaning “private courtyard” or “secluded yard,” refers to a hidden or less formal outdoor space in traditional Iranian architecture. Unlike the main courtyard used for gatherings and public functions, the HAYATE KHALVAT serves as an intimate, inward-facing area reserved for private daily life—often used by women, for household chores, or as a quiet retreat. It embodies the ,principles of privacy, modesty, and layered spatial hierarchy central to Persian domestic architecture.
